Welcome to the website of Angie Palmer
Singer-Songwriter
”One of Britain greatest Singer-Songwriters” Bob Harris BBC R2
2012: Old Sticks to Scare a Bird
“a singer-songwriter of considerable talent.” Manchester Evening News.
“with her fifth album; Folk music has finally caught up with Angie Palmer as Mumford and Sons, Ed Sheeran, Noah and the Whale combine the best in Americana with traditional British Folk music to create what is thought of a ‘modern commercial sound,’ but is exactly what Angie Palmer has been doing for the last 10 years”. *****Maverick/No Depression.
“conjures a fragile, dreamily beautiful, exotic soundscape that can’t fail to melt your eardrums time and again.” Netrythms.
This is more than simply another pleasant modern country release. It’s a showcase for Palmer’s writing and playing that leaves the listener wanting more. ****Country Update.
Angie consistently delivers quality with a capital Q. So it is the case here again and I for one am delighted to add this to both my broadcast playlist cannon and my personal collection. ****Blues Matters
“A real ElectricGhost favourite. Brilliant and highly recommended”. Electric Ghost.
Lancashire’s Angie Palmer is one of the best kept UK singer/songwriter secrets. Despite the likes of Bob Harris championing her and a slew of fine releases she steadfastly remains just slightly under the radar. A pity really as she’s one of our most literate songwriters and capable of delivering songs that wouldn’t be out of place in Joni Mitchell’s oeuvre. Blabber and Smoke.
“ Palmer goes from strength to strength” ****Q Magazine.
2008: Meanwhile, as night falls…
“Palmer makes the difficult blending of literary allusions a la Angela Carter and the quick punch of country rock seem simple, fusing fairytale and Lucinda Williams in one coherent whole. The music is impeccably played, lyrical and flowing.” AmericanaUK
“Perfectly crafted… Palmer’s night should fall more often.” Independent on Sunday
“Epic and beautiful.” The Guardian
“Atmospheric folk-rock from our own Lucinda Williams.” ****CD of the Week The Sun
“Reminds us just why Palmer’s narrative song writing talent has won her comparisons with both Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell.” ****Rock’N’Reel
“Operating where folk, blues, country and rock slide together and shot through with a distinctly English sensibility.” Q Magazine
“A mix of country folk rock equal measures of aggression and tenderness, an extraorindary set of songs… a treasure don’t let it pass you by.” ElectricGhost
“An intelligent, creative singer-songwriter details startling imagery…arresting.” Maverick
“Shows the art of the creative singer/songwriter at its very best.” Fish Records
“Her new album is a masterpiece, an album that is close to perfection.” Roots Highway
2006: Tales of Light & Darkness
“Palmer writes like an expert novelist… exuding a convincing fluency in the style that’s rare among home grown performers.” HMV Choice:Top 10 Albums July/August
“One of the UK’S Finest Singer/Songwriters and fast becoming the Queen of British Country-tinged singer-songwriters. Female guitarists are rare; those who play as well as Angie are rarer still. This is a musical tour de force from England’s answer to Lucinda Williams and Joni Mitchell.” Editorial Review amazon.Com
“Sounding like Beth Orton’s tougher big sister and utterly convincing. Rare in this world of introspective singer songwriters, Palmer has a truly narrative style, at times recalling Dylan, and consummately literate.” Acoustic Magazine.
“This is a magical album, and to resist is mindless. Go buy and enrich your lives beyond measure.” HiFi Magazine.
“Better than 99% of the albums anyone will hear this year.” ***** Country Music People
“A wonderfully diverse collection of music… lyrically sharp, gritty vocals and powerful music that makes you sit up and listen! ****Maverick Magazine.
“Even improves on Road… a superb album with quality at every turn… very highly recommended.” Fish Records
“With strong elements of blues, folk and country this is an album with quality stamped all over it.” *****Blues Matters Magazine.
